TRI research programs and projects, and some of the important and high priority projects in various Research Groups are presented in this section.

B-1. Transportation Infrastructure Research Group
The main objective of this department is compiling and revision of criteria, regulations and guidelines for development and improvement of infrastructures (transportation network including road and railroad, transportation terminals including ports, railroad stations, airports and service complexes).

High Priority Projects
1. Guidelines for bridge design 
2. Guidelines for tunnel design
3. Meteorological forecasting and modeling of the flooded areas.

B-2. Transportation Safety Research Group p
Due to the vital importance of safety in transportation system, also for the purpose of promoting scientific and research activities to fulfil the applied results; Transportation Safety Research Group has been appointed to investigate and tackle transportation problems of the country.

1. Road Safety Audit
2. Guidelines for Pavement Skidding Resistance
3. Guidelines for Enhancement of Skidding Resistance by Re-texturing
4. Effects of Police Monitoring and Speed Camera on Traffic Offenders
5. Study and Design of Crash Test Site in Iran

B-3. Planning Research Group and

B-7.Management Research Group
For the purpose of appropriate and integrated planning as well as controlling transportation demands, some management processes are implemented in this Research Group in all stages of feasibility study, design, construction, exploitation and maintenance.

2. Bridge Management Systems (BMS)
3. Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)
4. Value Engineering and Re-Engineering Program (VE)
5. Comprehensive Strategies and Studies in Transportation

B-4. Transportation Economics and Sustainable Development Research Group
This Research Group is mainly responsible for optimization of transportation sector by considering transportation as an economic activity rather than a service activity. This aim can be achieved by some procedures like energy saving in transportation sector, introducing procedures for reduction of risk and mitigation of damages, for the ultimate purpose of developing a safe, comfortable, fast and economic transportation system

3. Development of Regulations for Environmental oriented Assessment of Transportation Projects
4. Study and Determination of Appropriate Patterns of Transit Passenger and Freight Tariffs
5. Economical Analysis of Methods for Transportation Fleet with Fridge-equipped Containers (transportation of rotting goods)
6. Guidelines for Environmental Assessment of Rail Transportation Projects

B-5. Pavement Design and construction Research Group
Compiling technical and executive guidelines and regulations for quality improvement of pavements (roads, railroads, runways, etc�) and application of new technologies in construction and maintenance of roads are amongst the main objectives of this Research Group.

2. Guidelines for Quality Improvement of Bitumen and Asphalt
3. Guidelines for design and Construction of Railroads
4. Preliminary studies for development of Field and Site Laboratories

6. Study for establishment of field test sites in Iran
7. Guidelines for improvement of pavements

B6. Retrofit and Crisis Management Research Group
Compiling some comprehensive guidelines for modification of existing transportation conditions in Iran in order to improve quality of constructed bridges, roads, tunnels, railroad bridges etc� also application of retrofitting methods for improving the strength and durability of existent transportation structures, are the main functions of this Research Group.

2. Guidelines for Application of Grouting to Facilitate Drilling and Preventing falling rocks in tunnels
3. Guidelines for Detailed Analysis of Retrofitting Stone Bridges

5. Guidelines for Detailed Analysis of Retrofitting Metal Bridges
6. Crisis Management program (CMP)
